The Wowster mourns the death of Tarzan’s Cheetah The Chimp.
He’s gone. That little swinger Cheetah the Tarzan chimp who filled my childhood with such bliss.
Along with beefcakes such as Johnny Weissmuller and Maureen O’Hara his adventures filled our cinema with the shrieks of kids lost in the fantastic of the Jungle,
Like all swinger’s he was also the comic turn, usually fooling Tarzan, not very difficult, or dressing up. When push came to shove he also played his parts in taking the baddies into captivity, mainly black people mimicking apes, led astray by evil White men with moustaches and beards.
No political correctness there then, but gosh it was exciting, I’m ashamed to admit.
Thank you Cheetah who died peacefully at the Weissmuller Estate’s Palm Harbour sanctuary in Tampa as befits a true movie star.
You lit up my young life.
