Salmond Oil Strike

Published on February 16, 2012 by   ·   No Comments

Has Alex Salmond overstepped the mark with his political oil strike. The Wowster thinks he has.

One of the great debates of this century in the UK is whether or not Scotland should become independent from the UK?

The present state of play is that what was once a real chance of independence has been diminished as reality begins to dawn on the Scots.

But that’s before two interventions, one by Prime Minister David Cameron and the other by Scottish first minister Alex Salmond.

Both are wily operators but the better of the debate went to Salmond with a political oil strike which held out the prospect of Scotland getting its hands on billions of North Sea oil riches.

Cameron on the other hand could only witter on about how important the union was for all countries concerned particularly Scotland.  His point is a good one but as they say in the boondocks where’s the money, pal?

Also Cameron’s credibility has slumped because of his constant ducking and diving, particularly over the health service.

Salmond’s position is crude and inaccurate, but hey, who give a shit when the bribe is big enough.  I think while he has gained a short term advantage, his oil gambit could come back to haunt him.

Should we beware Scots leaders bearing bribes?
