Moved on but not dissolved.
It is always darkest just before dawn but the night-time raid on the Occupy Wall Street camp in Zucotti Park for “health and safety” reasons, merely managed to move the protest elsewhere.
Who knows, perhaps the authorities even helped to re-erect their media profile for them. Now the camp is ensconced at Foley Square for a time as yet undecided. Previous people’s protests have often ended in violence that has delayed change rather than encouraged it, but with a passion and determination the authorities hardly expected from the slacker generation, combined with their savvy media skills and the unending hunger of 24-hour news channels, this protest could end quietly after all. If they manage to harness the power of a ” it’s the economy stupid ” call to action, and steadily raise the ante over the coming year, the presidential elections could be car-crash TV.
