Springsteen’s Dream Racers

Andy Mclaren on Bruce Springsteen’s dream racers

ONE OF MY all time favourites is the  absolutely stunning song from Bruce Springsteen called Racing in the street.

Chevvy from the shell
Taken from Springsteen’s timeless  Darkness On the Edge of Town,  it’s a song about two guys, dream racers, building a Chevvy car from a shell but it’s so much more than that.

It’s about life. Dreams, hopes, aspirations, setbacks, knockbacks, relationships,  the whole nine yards.kni

Never give up
Racing
is also a supremely positive song. Don’t give up and don’t let the bastards get you down. Have a vision and see it through to completion.

Guys who come home from work and go out and fix cars have a vision and a dream. It’s not a case of boy racers.

Singing the dream
If you look at all of Springsteen’s previous and more recent work he sings about America, the whole package, the railroad, living the American dream.

And this anthem to dream racers is a classic example…
