The Wowster looks back at Lonnie Donegan, king of skiffle.
He ruled the world of skiffle, the king of all he surveyed, with his signature tune, My Old Man’s a Dustman, closely followed by Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavour?
Lonnie Donegan, lover of all sorts of music from jazz to country and western, first burst on to the scene with Rock Island Line but really came into his own, with the rumbustious classic, My Old Man’s a Dustman, a real treat and one of my very first favourites.
Using his cheeky, chappy style, to the sound of his magic banjo, Glasgow man Donnegan laid down his marker as a musical, all purpose, funny bones at a time when rock was king.
