Carnage: My Recurring Nightmare

Published on February 17, 2012 by   ·   No Comments

The Wowster goes to the movies and experiences a recurring nighmare.

Off to see Carnage for the second time…and experience a recurring nightmare that could destroy my career as your movie critic.

But first the movie. It’s a brilliant evocation of how two couples meet for the first time in tense circumstances.

From there the film soars into a kaleidoscope of nastiness laced with dark humour, all of it orchestrated by one of my favourite auteurs Roman Polanski in a trademark chamber piece set in a New York flat.

He is  ably abetted by Jodie Foster, Kate Winslett, John C Reilly and Christopher Waitz as the warring couples brimming with duplicity and false bonhomie.

The claustrophobia is intense as is the enjoyment of what to me is a masterwork.

One little problem  was the first time I went to see it in Glasgow I fell asleep just before the ending. So I promised myself I’d see it again…

And guess what?

One reviewer’s opinion with which I totally disagree.

The Wowster is the pen name of Nathan Goldberg, wowdewow publisher and founder. To make matters worse, he snores.
