Vivian Llu on the replacement for the Sunday Paper
Apple and cinnamon oatmeal, check. Hot coffee, check. Eggs in a basket, check. The Sunday paper… not so much.
Like many others, I grew up with the tradition of reading the Sunday paper. And like many of you, I no longer read the news in print format.
The Web has undoubtedly transformed the news environment. We all know that we can now receive information nearly instantaneously–and a lot of it. News of the 8.9-magnitude earthquake in Japan broke more quickly on Twitter than on TV news networks.
The masters of the Web have brought us tools to sift through content and stay informed . Newsletters are zipped to our inboxes with the click of a button. RSS feeds make many a morning read.
And then there’s social news reading. It’s content management and taste making on steroids.
The twitter feed is the RSS feed gone social. Sure, subscribe to your primary news providers. (Have you seen the New York Times and Guardian twitter accounts?) These channels are great because they run news blasts as events occur.
And then there’s your network. You may not follow Mashable on Twitter, but those you follow do. By way of the retweet, voila, news deemed important by the people you follow makes it’s way onto your Twitter feed.
You may not take your Sunday coffee with the paper anymore, but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice staying informed.
