Nathan Goldberg reports on the Harvard appointment of a toothpaste and mosquito net salesman for teaching entrepreneurship and also uncover new Mark Zuckerbergs
Harvard best known in terms of business for drop outs who set up huge social media giants has now decided to get a grip on innovation and teaching entrepreneurship.
The big idea from one of the world’s poshest universities is to set up a special unit called the Innovation Lab or iLab.
And the man leading it, dare we say it within hearing distance of those hallowed halls, is a toothpaste salesman.
Well he was back in his Proctor and Gamble days when he was a marketing executive. One wonders how good he was, he’s now a lecturer at Bentley University and you know what they say about those that can and those that teach?
Jone’s credentials are in selling toothpaste and toothbrushes around the world. He has also been involved with selling mosquito nets,
His job will be to sell the idea of business innovation and teaching entrepreneurship to the Harvard students with the iLab due to open in September.
“I’m going to encourage the students to sell the iLab to the other students, I’m not going to be the only evangelist around here.”
Mmmm. Sort of a multi level marketing scheme where all the budding Facebook brats can make some money while they get ready to steal each other’s ideas.
The iLab in fostering and teaching entrepreneurship will have set up Hack Harvard and Harvard School Business Competition .
Jones is now in post and is expected to spread his mosquito net far and wide to catch more than a few sprats.
Do you think this man is the right sort for Harvard, a toothpaste salesman or do you think it is exactly what they need? Discuss.
