Sexting: Does it damage young teens?

Published on January 22, 2012 by   ·   No Comments

The Wowster looks at so-called sexting and how it is affecting children?

Here are some statistics and you could find them worrying, if not shocking.

They’ve got to do with sexting which, as if you need to be told, means having relationships by texting.

According to a surgery carried out by a Scottish survey:

40% of teenagers between 11 and 18 say they have friends who sext and over a quarter of them do it all the time.

56% were given images and videos being distributed beyond the intended recipient.

30% knew some young person who had suffered because of sexting

8 is the average of children when they begin using the internet, the youngest in Europe.

50% of the children go online on a mobile.

102 minutes is the average time spent online by teenagers.

29% of UK children have had contact with someone they don’t know

Worried? Pointless.

The Internet is here to stay. A lot of the time spent there can be invaluable socially and in learning.

Of course, there is a downside, but when is there not with something worthwhile?

It can be fun, but…
