The Wowster on a performance that should take the Oscars by storm if there’s any justice.
Like a bat out of hell, Ralph Fiennes comes at you to lay claim to the top actor award at this year’s Oscars.
In a turn reminiscent of Orson Welles in his auteur glory days, he both stars in and directs the bombshell that is Corilanus, the Shakespeare epic of crypto fascism rendered human.
Equally effervescent and compelling is Vanessa Redgrave, as his mother, demonstrating the acting chops of a great acting family.
Both of them should sweep the top actor awards if there is any justice, the luminosity of their wattage overshadowing anything else out there.
But when since did justice count at the oscars, the wise money is on George Clooney and Meryl Streep, unfair, yes, but hey that’s the movie business for you.
I would go one further and give Fiennes best director award for a firm that blisters with pain, savagery and in the end the stuff of compassion. Bravo.
Judge for yourself…
