I AM QUITE into my Werewolf, Vampire, Necromancer and Zombie books so when ‘World War Z’ was brought to my attention I knew I had to read it.
Cashing in on fear
I haven’t finished the book yet. It is giving me a lot to think about how people can cash in ruthlessly on the fears of others.
In case of panic
Also there’s the argument what is important to tell the public and what shouldn’t be in case of panic.
Then I read about one of Taiwan’s best hospitals where five organ transplant patients have received them from HIV infected people. And all they got was a ‘sorry’ when sorry isn’t enough
Deadly mishearing?
Rumour has it that someone heard ‘non-reactive’ as a response to the HIV test which means ‘charge on, all ok here’ when actually it was ‘reactive’ which means ‘don’t touch that organ it’s HIV pos’.
You could say these people were probably going to die anyway and hey they are being given anti-AIDS drugs, what more do you want? But I wouldn’t tempt my own fate!
Queue Jumpers
Anyway, it was remarkably similar to a chapter in ‘World War Z’ when some of Zombie infected black-market organs were transplanted to rich queue jumpers around the world.
Obviously, if you are fabulously wealthy and need a liver it would be easier to have one ‘arranged’ or ‘harvested’ to your requirements.
I hope it is only five people affected and not many more by someone mishearing.
