Chris Niven reports, nay froths at the mouth, at the prospect of Nokia’s new N8 phone.
Nokia’s new N8 smartphone is almost here. It begins shipping today to everyone in the UK who has preordered, and will hit shops over the coming month.
The phone is jam packed with features including an improved Symbian 3 operating system that allows personalised home screens, and multitasking capabilities.
Theres an HDMI interface for external TV connection, an AMOLED touch-screen and Dolby Digital
Plus surround sound.
The device can also access web TV, and function as an MP3 music player for up to 50 hours. Satnav capabilities are standard and you can access it’s Ovi Store gadget centre for applications to take your phone on to the next level.
Nokia are so impressed with the N8 they have commissioned a film to be made by the McHenry Brothers. The short action-thriller-comedy called The Commuter, will show off it’s high quality video capabilities.
Alongside directors Ed and Rory, they’ve cast Dev Patel, Gossip Girl heartthrob Ed Westick, Pamela Anderson and other surprise cameo appearances.
Sure they have an all-star cast, 12MP camera, 720p playback, and a vivid viewscreen, but could it be an attempt to mask what it doesn’t have? Unlike it’s rivals, theres no updateable operating system, nowhere near as many applications and a higher price at £429RRP.
IF you like me though can consider it’s beauty and would love to own an N8 it will be available on most contracts upwards of £35 per month, or for my upgrade soon.
So are you excited? Or are you hankering for the days when a phone was a…well phone? Comments welcome.
Chris Niven, wowdewow operations manager, is due an upgrade in more ways than one.
