HAPPY birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday dear iPhone…….happy birthday to you.
Yes, the Apple iPhone is now four years old. It may not seem like that long ago to us humans but its 28 in dog years and like 400 in technology years.
Steve Jobs was 100% right in forecasting the trend in 2007, ‘Today Apple is going to reinvent the phone’
Woke up the mobile phone industry
And on 29th June 2007 the iPhone was launched to the world. Ok to begin with it was a bit pricey and didn’t have much memory but it certainly woke up the mobile phone industry. Apple had pushed the envelope so to speak.
It brought in a new era of mobile communications, all of a sudden phones could do loads of other things (apart from make you a coffee) including access social networking sites, email and could use some bizarre things called ‘apps’.
Slim and glamorous
Indeed the iPhone really heralded the start of touch-screen, mobile computing and the idea of a ‘Smartphone’. Competitors were gutted, some are still trying to catch up, never mind get ahead of the technology employed in this slim, aesthetically glamorous phone.
When Apple opened their iPhone App Store in 2008 again this left rivals that had no available additional applications that could be added on if you wanted like a fish out of water, unable to survive in the industry.
Goodbye dodgy ring tone
It was really the first time that you could customise your own phone to your own needs, previously the most you could do was have really dodgy ring tone or screensaver.
Giving us the Angry Birds. Say no more…
Say no moreToday in its 4th incarnation from the day of forecasting the trend, the iPhone is thinner, has a better camera, is cheaper and has much more memory (16 GB) and many more apps.
Just think, if it wasn’t for the iPhone, we would never have had ‘Angry Birds’
