Apple keep quiet

Nathan Goldberg looks at the latest case of the silent treatment as Apple bans a seemingly harmless game on immigration. As always, they are not saying why.

Apple who currently rule planet earth are not slow to stamp their godliness on mere mortals. Yours is not to argue, just accept the silent treatment.

The latest tribe to anger the Jobs who must be obeyed are the App developers. Why? Well Apple never say.

What is known is that they have  banned an app called Smuggle Truck. Apparently it’s an amusing little game which shows how difficult it i to migrate to the USA, even illegally. Apple don’t like it. Why? Who  knows, get thee back from the golden calf, god has spoken.

My first thought was that it could be encouraging illegal immigration. Certainly Apple aren’t saying. In any event, the truck is now full of loveable creatures excaping the zoo for the zoo. You couldn’t make it up, could you.

The other thought I had this could be racist, but after further consideration I didn’t think so. It’s only on religious stuff that Apple sway to the Right.

But even that’s not always the case, they have banned a few pro life and anti gay apps.

The problem is not that they act as censors, that is their entitlement to bar apps they don’t like. It’s that Apple have the Omerto culture, lips firmly sealed at all times.

That attitude collapsed a bit under the spotlight of their ability to track iPad and iPhone users. Jobs came down from the mountain to say it was not true,

The question of why he did it in the first place then is unclear if it’s not for nefarious or advertising purposes.

In turth, the behemoths of the Internet are not as powerful as they think. It would pay them to take heed, perhaps reconsider the silent treatment, particularly of the privacy issue that certainly affects Facebook and Google and could land at Apple’s door.

So far Congress has been fairly low key, but they must not bank on it lasting. Not even Steve Jobs.

Do you feel Apple are above the law, they have a right to their silence? Feel free to comment.
