So doing Facebook and twittering affects your brain the same way as falling in love?
Well don’t expect this reporter to go crazy about this latest wow. I know what falling in love can do to your brain.
But for those who like the idea, the man to go to is Paul Zac, a neuroeconomist (don’t ask!).
He has discovered that social networking triggers the release of the cuddle chemical, better known to those in the know as oxytocin.
And what it fills your mind with is lots of generosity and trust. He calls it the social glue that keeps us all together as families and communities.
And, for those of us who count the pennies, it is also an economic lubricant that makes us better marketers.
Zac, bless him, hugs every one he meets. He drives with a vanity plate, OXYTOSON.
His big mission is to find out why people with friends live longer and why you have the compulsion to tweet until you drop and so on.
There is a dark side though. Apparently this knowledge could make corporations know about our biochemistry and trick us into buying more. You don’t say …
But hey, enjoy the moment, get on Facebook now and feel really good about yourself. Doctor Love would want you to.
What do you think of Twitter? Does it make you feel loved? On that or any other point, comments most welcome.
