What happened next

Rena O’Neill tells how a mad dash back to her office turned out to be a bit of a nightmare. How she kept tripping over as she panicked more and more and then…

I had met an old friend for lunch in the restaurant of a city department store the other day and as ever over-ran my lunchbreak allocation .

In a panic as I started to make my way back to the office I broke into a mad dash aware deadline was looming and I still had stories to file .

I can’t do lifts and also wondering why the up and down escalators are seldom side-by-side. My descent through the first three floors saw me hurdle some boxes of stock.

To my shame I didn’t look back
At floor three, however, I was halted in my tracks – couldn’t see the down escalator.

In my careless rush my shoulder bag brushed a gift box as I flew through the perfume section and to my shame I didn’t look back. Fate had justice in mind for me though.

Firstly a toddler n inaverdently pushed her doll’s pram in front of me and I found myself tripping over o the floor, not just embarrassed but terrified the perfume woman would catch up with me.

I saw the edge of wooden stairs through the gathered crowd and ran towards them.

It’s superwoman or is it Lois Lane?
As I went for the stairs I was like a cross between Lois Lane and Superwoman but in a split second I was free-falling in a glass atrium with the floor coming up at me fast.

About six feet from a crash landing I suddenly stopped in mid air. I dangled on a chain -those hadn’t beeen real steps but a prop for the store display of shoes.

Hang on, I should be reporting story…
My rescue from the nightmare is a blur. But I vividly recall as I started along the street from the store – still on a mission to get back to my desk as fast as possible, I stopped suddenly with the thought “hang on – what’s just happened is a big story. I should be waiting for news teams to report my lucky escape

And then it happened – I woke up!

Yes it had all been a dream but so vivid and real I had to share my mad dash with you. Wish I could tell all the things that happened to me in my race through the store but my former boss Alister from wowdewow would never believe what I went through to get my copy filed to him in time.

Are you into interpreting  dreams? What meaning,  if any, can our blogger take from this dozy adventure? Comments welcome

Rena O’Neill is a regular wowdewow blogger and Alister, her editor in a former life when they both worked for the same newspaper, knows she would let nothing, not even mayhem in a perfume department, stop her filing her copy in time
