By Nathan Goldberg
As we get older, we should put away childish things.
Fat chance with this reporter.
I seem to have grown more childish as my life unravels, yes unravels. I use the word wisely, dear reader.
Take recently. I was minding my own business when I was encouraged by my work colleague, our whacky, wonderful Marianne to get an ear stud.
To be fair I had been mumbling about it off and on. And then she was encouraged by the office’s incorrigible bounder, Chris Niven, he of the girlfriend.
And Nathan, they warbled in unison, why not take a video of your homecoming. I had been out of Glasgow for a number of years. I was soon to remember why.
We went to a bridge on the Clyde where they thought a picture of me looking soulfully into the distance would be a wonderful advertisement for the real soulful depths of the wowdewow project.
And then this happened:
Undeterred, we trooped off to a tattoo parlour for me to get pierced. Again it was filmed.
Pretty cool eh?
In fact, Marianne has told me she can’t look at me without seeing the earring. I’m not sure what she means by that.
For me, I sorta feel like a new man. But also a man who suddenly has a new responsibility.
An earring. It has begun to take possession of me. Every morning I have to remember to wash it. In some sort of gooey stuff.
Instead of feeling like a cool dude, I feel like a nurse.
As the poet, Alexander Smith, once said of Glasgow, Oh City. I am true son of thine. Yup that’s for sure.
What have been your experiences of Glasgow? Good, bad, forgettable. That and any other points welcome.
Nathan Goldberg, CEO of wowdewow, is still wearing his earring. Updates available here.
