Lindsey Agness, best selling personal development author, starts a regular series of blogs by looking at how we can move out of the humdrum into the bright light of a life with wow.

Welcome to my first blog for wowdewow. When Nathan Goldberg asked me to be the face of his personal development team I was delighted to accept. I’m an author, NLP trainer and coach who loves assisting people who want to break out of what I call the grey zone.

So what’s the grey zone all about? Well it’s that place where a huge number of people spend their entire lives. That comfortable yet uncomfortable place where people know they are capable of being, doing or having more yet they are stuck.

I want to use these blogs to give you some ideas about how to take that first step out of the grey zone towards what I call the Brilliant Zone.

I had been in the grey zone for many years until I made some big changes in my 40s to leave my career as a business consultant, my marriage, set up my own business and start to write.

Part of the thrill

I had no clue at the time how it would unfold. That’s part of the thrill of taking a few risks and moving out of the grey zone.

Some people think they have to make massive and scary changes. That’s how some people do it, but most of my clients take small steps and small, manageable risks.

So if you want to change your career or start your own business get something in place first – set up a transition from your present situation to where you want to be.

I used my leave and weekends to experiment as a trainer of NLP before taking the plunge. I also had contracts in place with my old employer at the time I left. I’m a single parent of two kids with a mortgage so I had to do things gently.

So if you want to do something different there’s always steps you can take to see how it feels outside of the grey zone.

A question for you. If you are in grey zone, what holds you there? What could you do to start to take some small steps outside? I’ll explore more about that in my next blog …

  1. Good Morning, I do not normally post feedback on articles, as I prefer to read only. However I find the post that you have written earlier has very insightful information, and I discover it very informational. I was searching on Google for thoughts on self improvement & stumbled your valuable blog. Could you post something the same superb on how to self improve fast? Cheers. ~ Augustine Coffland
