The Wowster asks is sex dirty?

Is sex dirty, asked Woody Allen. Answer: Only if it’s done right

I sort of agree, particularly after watching Shame, a superior bonking movie that pulls no punches.

It tells the story of Brendan, a super stud who satisfies every woman he meets as long as he has his cock in them.

After that they go back to hubby, turning down any niceties with Brendan. He goes back to his glistening little pad from hell in Manhattan.

Like a lot of such films of it’s kind, Shame is highly moral, suggesting that dirty sex is shameful which I don’t get.

For those that like it, it’s fabulous and who’s to deny them? It’s not better or worse than slow, caring sex and better than no sex.

Me, I like both but it doesn’t obsess me. It does, Brendan. But it’s the obsession not the sex that fucks him up. And this is the central confusion of the movie.

Still, it’s worth seeing for Michael Fassbinder’s performance and some very cool shots of Manhattan by night.

Standout moment is actress Carey Mulligan, Brendan’s vulnerable sister, singing New York, New York. Brilliant.
