Invisibility Cloak

The Wowser assesses the possibilities of an invisibility cloak

How long before you can make yourself unseen with an invisibility cloak? Well not long if a recent breakthrough is anything to go by.

Japanese researchers have cloaked a three dimensional object making it invisible from all angles.

Although the demo only works on waves in the microwave region of the electromagnetic spectrum, it is a step forward and should not allow us to give up hopes of being able to become invisible.

The research uses a clock of plasmonic materials which present a “photo negative” of the object being cloaked, rendering it invisible.

The idea will probably make its debut on high-resolution microscopes.

How long before we have a Star Trek cloak of invisibility. To be honest, probably not for a long time, but just imagine if it did become available and the problems it would solve.

For instance

Going to see your favourite rock band for free

Accidentally on purpose visiting the changing room of…

Oops mustn’t go there., I guess.
